Activities in the Arctic
The Sami people live across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia, with an estimated total population of 80,000—about half residing in Norway. They are indigenous people of the Sàpmi region.
The Sami culture, the oldest in much of Northern Norway, is experiencing a vibrant revival. Approximately 2,600 Sami people in Norway sustain their livelihoods through reindeer herding, with most of Northern Norway, including Tromsø, dedicated to this tradition.
